British engineering is some of the best in the world and we have a proud tradition of providing intelligent engineering solutions to some of the most complex problems. The news for British engineering has been very positive over the last few months as the UK economy has continued to improve.
Here at Airedale Springs we have made our name making a range of precision engineered springs including compression springs, tension springs, torsion springs, wire forms and many more. Our long history of manufacturing engineering products means we have a keen interest in the future of British engineering and want to ensure that it is still a source of pride for future generations. With this in mind we have put together a short list of ways in which we feel the engineering industry as a whole is showing signs of a strong future;
Investment
Recent announcements of increased government investment in the engineering sector coupled with overseas demand for British engineered products mean the engineering sector looks set for growth in future. British industry accounts for around 11% of UK output however it delivers a disproportionate 50% of exports of which over half are to the EU. Since the completion of its new factory in 2012 Airedale Springs has invested over £150k in 2013 and will have invested a similar figure in 2014 in new equipment to increase our product range. Of course it is not only down to the extra investment in equipment but also to a new generation of engineers and we are actively seeking to increase our skill range of new and existing staff.
Shows/ Publicity
Engineering and the search for engineering genius is also taking more of a spotlight recently in a bid to inspire more engineers in the future. Show such as the Engineer’s conference 2014 put the spotlight on the latest innovations and how they look set to impact the incredibly broad world of engineering. These shows also look to inspire those that have an interest to follow their dream and focus their career search on engineering.
Demand for quality
Emerging and developing economies have become a huge market for British engineered products and demand for high-end British engineering such as luxury cars has never been higher. This investment in quality has given the British economy as a whole a huge boost and looks set to continue long into the future.
Made in Britain
The tradition of British engineered products being world leaders in areas such as quality, customer service and innovation is well known. There has been a significant increase in the number of customers brining back manufacturing to Britain. One in six UK-based manufactures has brought production back in house in the past three years. Airedale Springs has been involved in several projects to improve quality and delivery of previously imported product.
