Sustainability is integral to the work we do here at Airedale Springs, and this includes energy efficiency. Recently, we worked with commercial EPC experts Future Building to conduct our Energy Performance Certificate. We achieved an A+ rating which is the highest possible certification, and we see this as a reflection of all the positive work we do towards creating a greener spring manufacturing future. We’re one of the only manufacturing facilities in the UK that have a Net-Zero Co2 -12 A+ EPC rating.

When conducting their analysis Future Building carried out a thorough inspection of our site, evaluating glazing, heating, and lighting systems as well as insulation. Using their measurements, the team were able to create a 3D model of the property which allowed them to identify any discrepancies and adjust solar panel placements to be perfectly aligned with the sun’s energy.

There are several features that we employ that assist with the energy efficiency of our operations, which have played a vital role in helping us to achieve this qualification:

  • Our 181Kw generating facility is made up of 432 solar panels on the roof of our building, which supplies us with over 80% of our annual energy needs.
  • We have a comprehensive battery storage solution comprised of three SunSynk 50Kw inverters and six 61kWh battery racks housed in a standalone unit.
  • We’re able to store up energy for use later on as well as sell surplus electricity back to the grid, and we’re careful to use energy that’s only absolutely necessary.
  • Our building is well-insulated and employs a compressed air system, which uses around 40% less power than a standard system.

The A+ EPC rating joins our list of impressive sustainability accomplishments, including Sustainable Business of the Year at the 2024 Keighley & Airedale Business Awards, and the Sustainability Award at the 2024 Telegraph & Argus Bradford Means Business Awards.

At Airedale Springs, we are proud to lead the way in promoting sustainability within the manufacturing industry. Our commitment to energy efficiency should encourage other businesses to follow in our footsteps, and we will continue to push forward with our mission to reduce our environmental impact.
